| Introduction Your puppy may attend our puppy training classes as soon as she has finished her course of injections. In addition to the formal training, the classes are an ideal opportunity for your puppy to develop social skills with other puppies as well as for you to meet like minded people. If you have re-homed a dog, either this or the basic class will be suitable; please come with your dog so we can advise you. Handlers of any age are welcome.
Course Details The puppy training course runs once a week over seven weeks. It covers the basic commands: - Sit
- Down
- Stand
- Sit Stay (owner walks away)
- Down Stay
- Stand Stay
- Heel work (including weave)
- Leave
- Recall (dog returns to you)
- Finish (dog sits next to you)
The class is taught by Roy Hammersley who has 50 years’ dog training experience and judges at national level. Trainers are also on hand after the class to discuss one on one any issues and questions that you may have.
Where, When and How Much? Classes are held on Monday evenings and start at 7pm at Chieveley Village Hall (indoors). Sessions last about 30 minutes. It is recommended that you arrive 15 minutes earlier to give your dog a chance to settle and socialise with the other puppies. There is also a playing field in front of the Hall to let the dogs run off a little steam before the class.
It costs £20 for the 7 week course. We can accept cheques and cash but, sorry, no credit nor debit cards. Due to limited numbers, all puppy classes must be booked in advance. Please check the calendar to view the start dates of the each course.
What to Bring For each class, we recommend that you bring along: - Your puppy wearing a collar or half check collar
- A lead (preferably leather)
- A bag of small treats (which are also available for 50p)
- A favourite toy
- Clean up materials
We also suggest that you wear trousers and comfortable shoes.
Restrictions For the safety of your puppy and others, we require the full course of vaccinations to be completed prior to attending. Additionally, we cannot allow bitches in season.
